Liverpool will be diving into this summer’s transfer market with the intention of building on the success that Arne Slot has brought with him during his first season in charge.
Charging towards a Premier League title, a remarkable achievement for the man tasked with taking over from Jurgen Klopp, Slot has worked his magic on Merseyside.
The man who picked Arne Slot out to take over at Liverpool was Richard Hughes.
Richard Hughes became Liverpool’s sporting director on June 1st 2024 and was instrumental in bringing Arne Slot to Anfield.
Hughes will be at the center of the action once again this summer as Liverpool look to improve their squad with significant changes reportedly coming.
Arne Slot has guided Liverpool to the top of the Premier League table with six games to go, currently boasting a thirteen-point lead at the summit.
However, Slot has asked for the spotlight to be shifted off him and on to Richard Hughes, as he has praised the sporting director for two key signings at Liverpool.
The past two weeks have seen the confirmation of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk extending their stay at Liverpool.
The pair both put pen to paper on two-year contract extensions.
Two hugely important players for Liverpool, both on and off the pitch.
A duo that Hughes negotiated with and succeeded in keeping them at the club despite extreme external pressure.
Arne Slot said: “By bringing these contracts over the line, Richard deserves credit for that, and lots of credit.”
“In the end, we got what we wanted and Mo had, in most situations, when you simply look at his numbers, his best season so far in his history at Liverpool.”
“And for Virgil it’s difficult to judge this on numbers, but I think he’s having a great, great season as well.”
“Mostly people judge the sporting director on the signings he brings in, I also like to judge him on how he lets me work over here, and giving me the confidence and always being positive, and creating a way of working which is idea for every manager.”
After signing Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, Richard Hughes and Arne Slot will now turn their attention to this summer and decide what the future of Liverpool’s squad will look like.
But the nerves can be calmed, now that two of Liverpool’s most important players will no longer be searching for a new adventure this summer.
