Arne Slot has provided a Diogo Jota injury update ahead of this weekend’s Premier League action.

As the season intensifies, Liverpool prepares to host Aston Villa at Anfield this Saturday, November 9, 2024, with kickoff scheduled for 8:00 PM GMT.

Currently leading the league, the Reds aim to extend their dominance and maintain momentum in the title race.

Managed by Unai Emery, Aston Villa has demonstrated that they are still a force to be reckoned with – although they come into the tie having lost their last three matches.

The most recent encounter in May 2024 ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw at Villa Park, with Jhon Durán scoring two late goals to salvage a point for Villa.

Prior to that, on September 3, 2023, Liverpool secured a 3-0 victory at Anfield.

Overall, Liverpool has won 18 of the last 31 encounters, with Aston Villa securing 7 victories, and 6 matches ending in draws.

And although it will be a challenging affair, it seems the Reds will not have to contend with the dreaded Saturday lunchtime kick-off.

The 8:00 PM GMT kick-off time is a result of both sides being involved in European competition this week – meaning fans will have to wait until 15:00 on Saturday for their first Premier League action of the weekend.

Arne Slot injury update

Speaking in his pre-Villa press conference at the AXA Training Centre this morning, the Dutchman gave an update on the status of Diogo Jota.

Goalkeeper Alisson Becker remains sidelined with a hamstring injury, with Caoimhín Kelleher expected to continue in goal.

Harvey Elliott is out with a fractured foot.

On the Portuguese international, Slot said:

We expect him back after the break.

I always say there is privacy about the injury.

“He will be back one or two weeks after the break.”

He also revealed that his plan to play Luis Diaz down the middle against Leverkusen was as a result of a lack of options:

“When we had Diogo and Darwin available we played one of those two.

I liked the last idea with Lucho scoring three goals, it is always interesting to see but Lucho is a good left winger.”

“We have 4 available for 3 positions, so we could think of another idea but if Diogo is back then we have 2 No.9s.

Lucho did really well and even for me, it was a bit of a surprise?

I expected him to do good but that he did so well was a surprise.”
