Liverpool manager Arne Slot has shared his thoughts on Ange Postecoglou’s football style.
Much has been made of the Tottenham Hotspur manager’s footballing style and how it is unsuitable for the Premier League.
The Australian is known to favour attacking football that emphasises fast breaks and high lines.
The style brought him success in Celtic and helped Tottenham to a top-five finish last season.
However, things have been different for Spurs this season, and they find themselves sitting in mid-table, having lost seven of their first 16 games.
As such, there has been increased scrutiny of Postecoglou and his style of play.
However, Arne Slot has defended the Australian, praising the work he is doing at the North London club.
What Arne Slot said about Ange Postecoglou
Speaking to the media during the pre-Tottenham press conference, Slot stated that Postecoglou has given the North London club back their identity.
“I really have to give them credit because if I look at Tottenham and I come from Holland, but I did watch a lot of Match of the Day, I think about [David] Ginola, Paul Gascoigne, Glenn Hoddle, and more recently [Luka] Modric and, for me, Rafael van der Vaart… and Gareth Bale,” he said.
“They’ve always been a certain brand in football for me and have a certain identity.
I think Ange Postecoglou gives them that identity back completely.
It’s every time a joy to watch them, and sometimes results once in a while go against them, but I think they were one of the teams that beat [Manchester] City.
“Like us, not all of them beat them in the manner like we and Tottenham did, because it was completely deserved in these two situations… it’s great work that Ange is doing over there.”
Slot also revealed his hope that Postecoglou will win a trophy this season.
“I hope this has been seen a bit more!
I also hope, hope, hope that he wins a trophy – not the League Cup.
But I’m completely a fan of his team for the Europa League because people always talk about trophies, trophies, trophies [and] that it’s so important.
“For his brand of football and his style, it is so much more important, and if he can combine that with winning something, that would be so good for football in general because people can stop talking about it’s too attacking or whatever?
