Arne Slot has refused to further increase the scrutiny on beleaguered referee Michael Oliver despite a disagreement over his red card at Everton last month.

The Football Association released on Tuesday afternoon the written reasons for the decision to slap Slot with a two-match touchline ban and a £70,000 fine after being charged for his behaviour that led to being dismissed by Oliver following the final whistle of the controversial 2-2 Premier League draw at Goodison.

It emerged Slot disagreed with Oliver's record of the events that saw both the Liverpool boss and his assistant Sipke Hulshoff sent off during the on-field chaos for which both the Reds and Everton also accepted FA charges and were fined.

Oliver was the subject of further controversy last weekend when he failed to dismiss Millwall goalkeeper Liam Roberts for a challenge that left Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta in hospital, with VAR eventually advising the foul was worthy of a red.

The referee has subsequently been left off the officiating list for the weekend round of Premier League matches.

But when asked for his reaction to the FA's report, Slot insisted that it would be a better example to not further stoke the flames on the subject.

"What I said also in the written report and I can say it one more time, the moment it happened I was quite emotional for everything that happened in the last seven or eight minutes and maybe during the whole game," said the Reds boss, who was speaking at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday ahead of Liverpool's Champions League round of 16 tie against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.

"I chose to go on pitch instead of staying calm staying inside and then talking to Michael.

"Now I don't have the same emotions anymore so I think I should set a better example than I set back then and don't go into the situation again.

"It's clear what I've written and what Michael has written.

Michael has been in the news quite a lot recently and I don't think it helps if I add something to that now I have my emotions under control."

Liverpool have taken a 24-man squad to France which includes Cody Gakpo, despite the Holland international being absent from open training earlier in the day.

And Slot admits the striker, who recently missed two games with an ankle injury, is a doubt for the game.

"He was close to being ready to play again but unfortunately yesterday he had to block a shot and he felt a bit of pain again," he said.
