Federico Chiesa, the Italian forward who joined Liverpool from Juventus last summer, could still miss out on an automatic Premier League winners' medal if the Reds secure the title.

He has only made three league appearances this season and needs two more to qualify for a winners' medal.

However, he could still receive one without playing the required five Premier League games as the champions are allocated 40 medals to distribute as they see fit, once every player with five or more appearances has been awarded one.

Chiesa's limited game time under manager Arne Slot hasn't been helped by fitness issues.

The 27-year-old has seen just seven minutes of Premier League action since September.

With Liverpool still in the running for three titles, it's likely that manager Arne Slot will need to rotate his squad in the coming weeks.

Jayden Danns, who has featured in both Premier League and Champions League matches this season, is four games short of qualifying for one, and won't be adding any more appearances after being loaned to Sunderland.

Backup goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros also needs four more appearances, but with Alisson and Caoimhin Kelleher fit again, finding playing time will be challenging.

Other players like Trey Nyoni, Tyler Morton and James McConnell, who have all had multiple outings in other competitions, are five league games short of qualifying and look set to miss out.

Despite spending much of the season injured, Chiesa has managed to make 10 appearances for Liverpool, contributing three goals in those games - a commendable achievement considering he's only started three times.

He wouldn't be the first senior player to narrowly miss out on an automatic winners' medal.

Kalvin Phillips made just four appearances for champions Manchester City last season, and Cole Palmer, now at Chelsea, found himself in the same situation in the 2021/22 season.

During Liverpool's triumphant 2019/20 season, Harvey Elliott fell just three games short of earning a winners' medal, while Curtis Jones narrowly escaped the same fate, having featured in six matches.
