Liverpool can win the Premier League title with four games to spare on Sunday - but boss Arne Slot has warned the best is yet to come.

The Reds will be crowned champions for a record-equalling 20th time if they get a point or better against Tottenham at Anfield.

Slot will lead them to the title in his very first season at the club but he expects them to improve next term.



I have always said that as a manager everywhere around the world everyone wants to achieve perfection and that will probably never work out but even in the last few weeks we are still trying to get better in certain things.

“Keeping the standards as high as we had them for the whole season so yeah, close maybe in some parts of the season or in some games but in other moments we have to do much better.”

If Liverpool will get the job done it will spark jubilant celebrations among the home fans who didn’t get to see them win the title in person in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Few would have imagined they’d go level on titles with Manchester United when Jurgen Klopp left last summer.

But Slot has managed to build on what the German has done and is still putting his own mark on the team to make it what he sees as his way.

He added: “Parts of the season we were maybe quite close to that or phases in a game but in general every manager that works at a top club wants to have control of a game, every single minute of the game.

But that is hardly possible in this league.

“There were phases also during the season or during games where we didn’t have that control so I think we can do and we have to become even better than we are now and we can.”
