Liverpool fans know how tough it is to keep up with Manchester City.
For years, they have been the team to beat, always pushing for the title under Pep Guardiola.
Even when Liverpool won the league in 2020, City bounced back stronger.
This season, however, things have been different.
For the first time in years, City is struggling to keep pace at the top.
Injuries, inconsistency, and a brutal schedule have left them trailing behind.
This is something no one expected.
When City isn’t in the title race, it feels unusual.
Fans, pundits, and even rival managers are noticing it.
And Liverpool’s own Arne Slot has shared his thoughts on their surprising dip in form.
Arne Slot speaks on Manchester City form ahead of Etihad clash
Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s upcoming clash with City, Slot admitted he was surprised to see them so far behind in the table.
“Yeah, I think everybody is surprised that City is not up there because they’ve been up there for so many years,” he said.
Slot was full of praise for Guardiola’s side, emphasizing their consistency over the years.
“They have a great manager that has shown that he can be up there every single season, so I don’t think anyone would have expected them now to be so many points behind us.”
However, he also warned that City is showing signs of recovery.
“I do see they are coming up again.
I think in the weekend they were very good against Newcastle,” Slot noted.
He pointed out that City has strengthened in the transfer window, saying, “They brought in three, four new players, so I think everybody knows that this probably is a one-time moment, one-time season that they are not up there.”
Slot is convinced City will be back next season.
“Everybody, at least I, expect them to be up there next season again because you can already see them going up.”
He acknowledged their struggles earlier in the season but stressed that they are improving.
“That was a surprise for me, but like I said, I think they are already much better.
They had one or two difficult months.”
“They started the season well.
I think they are getting there now again but yeah dropped too many points in a difficult period of the season where they had many injuries as well.”
Finally, he highlighted the unforgiving nature of the Premier League, saying, “This league is ruthless.
