Liverpool’s late show against West Ham United on Sunday saw the Reds come away with another huge three points to take another step towards this season’s Premier League title.

Luis Diaz gave the hosts an early lead but a nervy second half led to an eventual miscommunication between Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson, with the ball ricocheting off of the Scotsman and into the net for the Hammers to level.

But, van Dijk responded in the perfect way just three minutes later, as his powering corner header sailed beyond the West Ham players and Anfield erupted into celebration.

The victory for Liverpool stretched their advantage at the top to thirteen points, needing just six more points to clinch the league title with Leicester City and Tottenham up next.

Sunday’s meeting with West Ham was Arne Slot’s fiftieth in charge of the Reds and has accumulated the most wins out of any other Liverpool manager in the same time frame.

Here, we will be picking out the Dutchman’s top five in what is shaping up to be a memorable first season on Merseyside.

LIVERPOOL 4-0 BAYER LEVERKUSENDavid Rawcliffe/Propaganda.

Back in November, Liverpool hosted Bayer Leverkusen and their former player Xabi Alonso, in the League Phase of the UEFA Champions League.

This game posed as Arne Slot’s first big European test as boss, facing the reigning invincible champions of Germany’s Bundesliga, but this was where the Dutchman proved he was to be taken seriously.

Luis Diaz was deployed as the main number nine for the first time in his Liverpool career, suddenly exploding into life in doing so.

The Colombian netted three goals in thirty second-half minutes, accompanied by a Cody Gakpo strike, helping the Reds and Arne Slot to a romping 4-0 victory over their former hero and his invincible team.

This victory acted as a huge statement being sent out from Liverpool to their fellow teams in England and Europe, to prove that was something was beginning to build at Anfield under the new regime.

In their very next European fixture, Slot and Liverpool hosted 15-time Champions League winners and old foes, Real Madrid.

Going into this one, there was a lot a pressure given the Reds’ recent record against Los Blancos in their meetings prior.

In fact, their last victory was a 4-0 home thrashing in the same competition back in 2009.

But since, Liverpool did suffer from numerous amounts of European heartbreak awarded by Real Madrid, including two finals.

This was a game in which Slot’s side dominated from start to finish, picking the reigning European champions aside with ease, despite having to wait until the second forty-five for their goals to arrive.

Alexis Mac Allister opened the scoring following a neat set-up by Conor Bradley, then there were two huge penalty misses from either side.

Firstly, Kylian Mbappe failed to beat the gloves off Caoimhin Kelleher who guessed right, before Mohamed Salah lashed his spot-kick against the woodwork.

After asserting their dominance once more, the long-awaited second goal for Liverpool arrived via a corner in the seventy-eighth minute as Cody Gakpo rose highest to head home.

On the night where Bradley announced himself on the European stage courtesy of a crunching challenge on Kylian Mbappe, Arne Slot became the first Liverpool manager to beat Real Madrid in any competition, for fifteen years.

One for the history books.

Following a 2-0 victory during the reverse fixture at Anfield, Liverpool arrived at the Etihad in February, hoping to do the double over Manchester City for the first time in nine seasons.

Arne Slot got his tactics spot on in opting for a 4-4-2 shape, in an attempt to stop Manchester City’s threat.

Luis Díaz and Dominik Szoboszlai acted as two number nine’s, whilst Curtis Jones and Mohamed Salah were the wide men.

This was implemented so Liverpool could allow for more control in the middle of the park, and worked to perfection.

Salah and Szoboszlai combined with a goal and assist each as the pair helped towards a rather comfortable two-goal victory.

For a large portion of the game, Liverpool were on the back-foot, but their ability to soak up pressure and strike when needed proved the difference in this one.

Liverpool offered their best defensive performance of the season in the hardest away fixture against the reigning Premier Leagur champions.

Arne Slot claimed just a second Etihad league win for the Reds since 2015 and they were in second gear for the majority of it.

Another big statement from Slot as Liverpool went eleven clear in February.

Liverpool arrived at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in December for a Premier League goal-fest.

Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah netted braces to start and finish the scoring, but in-between, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai netted the second and third of six away goals for Arne Slot’s side.

Although, they were handed a few scares throughout the ninety minutes.

Despite being far better than Tottenham on the day, Liverpool still managed to ship in three goals from just 1.27 expected goals (xG) by their opposition, and mainly due to defensive mishaps.

James Maddison, Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski were all on the scoresheet to restore some little parity for Spurs, after Liverpool were ruthless with their attacking play.

This game remains the highest scoring fixture from Arne Slot’s Liverpool tenure so far and whilst it may not be remembered for the defending aspects, the Reds’ attacking quality was a cut above anything we’ve seen this season.

WEST HAM 0-5 LIVERPOOLReuters.

Arne Slot treated the Liverpool supporters to a demolition job in London, post Christmas away to West Ham.

A devastating attacking lineup that consisted of Luis Díaz, Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota, all found themselves on the scoresheet in a 5-0 hammering of the Hammers.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s free kick shortly after the break, was Liverpool’s fourth and probably the pick of the lot.

Despite West Ham causing problems of their own in stages, Liverpool looked on another level and dismantled their opponents with ease.

This victory was another highlight of Liverpool’s attacking threat that can prove huge issues for any team – having scored seventy-four league goals this campaign.

Arne Slot could not have hoped for a better first season at Anfield.

The Dutchman has reached game number fifty with the most ever victories of any Reds boss, and the Premier League trophy in close sight.

Just two more wins will see the dream become a reality, but the title could be wrapped up as early as next weekend.

One hand on it.
