Still fresh from their Man City triumph, things don’t get any easier for Liverpool as they host Newcastle United on Wednesday evening.
In what will be almost a warm-up game ahead of the Carabao Cup final, the two cup finalists will meet in the Premier League two and half weeks ahead of their Wembley meeting.
Newcastle gave the Reds problems in the reverse fixture back in December, with the Magpies holding Liverpool to an entertaining 3-3 draw at St James’ Park.
Arne Slot has highlighted Newcastle’s ‘threat’ ahead of the game, but one thing the Reds boss may have not planned for is the return of Sandro Tonali.

The likes of Ryan Gravenberch and Curtis Jones have been revelations for Liverpool in midfield this season, but they will have to be on their A-game against the Magpies.
That is because Newcastle also possesses a strong midfield of their own with Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton mainstays in Eddie Howe’s engine room.
They aren’t the only midfielders, Slot should be worried about however after Newcastle boss Howe revealed that Tonali will likely be fully fit for the trip to Anfield.
Sven is improving and improving quickly, we will see if he makes the game or not, he will be close.”

Recently described as ‘outstanding’ as Paul Merson, Tonali has arguably been one of Newcastle’s best players this season alongside Liverpool target Alexander Isak.
With that being said, the Reds were actually linked with Tonali back in 2023 before the Italian international moved to Tyneside.
During Jurgen Klopp’s last summer charge, the Merseyside outfit were openly keen on bringing in a new midfielder, with the Reds failing to sign Moises Caicedo as the midfielder opted to join Chelsea.
Klopp’s side however could have themselves that embarrassment as Liverpool were actually told to sign Tonali over Caicedo.
