Liverpool face Newcastle United this weekend in the Carabao Cup final in Arne Slot’s first chance to win silverware for the Reds.
Having been eliminated from the UEFA Champions League a month after being knocked out in the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup and Premier League remain the two titles Slot can win for Liverpool this season in his first year in charge.
With Liverpool 15 points clear of Arsenal with ten games to go, the Premier League is all-but wrapped up, meaning the Reds can afford to go all-out this Sunday at Wembley Stadium when they face Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final.
Indeed, Slot is no stranger to cup finals having managed Feyenoord and AZ Alkmaar in the Netherlands, yet how does the Dutch coach’s record in showpiece games look heading into Sunday’s headline fixture against Newcastle.

Slot worked wonders at Feyenoord as the now-Liverpool manager ended a six-year wait for an Eredivise title for the Rotterdam-based side, playing some of the most electric football in all of Europe, a factor that led the 46-year-old to Anfield.

Yet when it comes to Slot’s performances in cup finals, the Liverpool manager’s record is surprisingly poor, with the Dutch coach winning just one of his three finals during his career, that coming in the 2024 KNVB Cup against NEC Nijmegen.
The most famous of Slot’s finals, though, is easily the 2022 UEFA Europa Conference League against Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma, the first in the competition’s history as the former Chelsea and Manchester United manager bested Feyenoord in Tirana.

Indeed, Liverpool fans will be hopeful that Slot can earn his second cup final win ever in his career on the weekend, and the Dutch coach himself will be keen to win his first piece of silverware since joining the Reds last summer.
Liverpool head into Sunday’s cup final on the back of a crushing loss against PSG, with the Reds exiting the Champions League on penalties with Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones both missing their spot kicks.
And in terms of team news, there could be some key players absent for the Anfield side, with Trent Alexander-Arnold coming off injured for Liverpool against PSG on Tuesday with Joe Gomez and Conor Bradley also out for the Reds.
With Ibrahima Konate also being taken off against PSG, there’s a real chance that Liverpool could start the Carabao Cup final with a makeshift defence against Newcastle, which could give the Magpies hope over a potential result.
