Bukayo Saka has handed Arsenal a timely injury boost ahead of the Premier League run-in by returning to individual training - just weeks ahead of his side's trip to Anfield.

Saka has been sidelined since suffering a hamstring injury in December's 5-1 win over Crystal Palace.

The England international has missed 12 Premier League games through injury after surgery to correct the issue.

In that time, Liverpool have extended their lead at the top of the table to 12 points and ahead of the final nine games of the season, are in pole position to win a second Premier League title in five years.

However, the Gunners will be boosted by the sight of Saka returning to training at London Colney on Thursday afternoon.

When posting his return to individual training on Instagram, Saka wrote: "Hello again."

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta spoke about Saka and fellow winger Martinelli, who has since returned to the squad, and said he expected Saka to return after the international break.

"I think so but again let's see how they evolve in the next few weeks to make the right steps and then after that, they’ve been out for a long, long time, so we’re going to have to integrate them as well gradually," he said.

"They are evolving well but they’re still a bit far.

"We have a meeting tomorrow to discuss where they are, especially Gabi, who probably has a chance before Bukayo to come in, but how soon that is, we’ll have to see how it evolves in the next week or 10 days."

Arsenal are back in Premier League action on Tuesday when they face Fulham, while Liverpool face Everton 24 hours later.

The Reds know that a victory in the Merseyside Derby will maintain their 12-point lead at the top of the Premier League.

Arne Slot, however, will be unable to call on Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Conor Bradley and Tyler Morton for next week's clash at Anfield, with the quartet sidelined with injury.

Alexander-Arnold, who is reportedly closing in on a move to Real Madrid at the end of the season, missed the League Cup final defeat to Newcastle United earlier this month after suffering an ankle injury against Paris Saint-Germain on March 11.
