Pep Guardiola has revealed who is the tougher opposition between Liverpool and Arsenal.
In recent Premier League seasons, Liverpool and Arsenal have emerged as the primary challengers to Manchester City’s dominance.
However, Liverpool has consistently posed a more formidable threat, as evidenced by their higher points tallies in key campaigns.
Liverpool’s pursuit of the title has been marked by exceptional performances.
In the 2018/19 season, they amassed 97 points, finishing just one point behind Manchester City’s 98—a record for the highest points total without winning the league.
The following season, Liverpool clinched the title with 99 points, showcasing their resilience and quality.
In the 2021/22 campaign, they again reached 92 points, narrowly missing out to City’s 93.
These consistent high-point finishes underscore Liverpool’s sustained challenge to City’s supremacy.
In contrast, Arsenal’s resurgence under Mikel Arteta has been notable but has yet to reach the same heights.
Their highest recent finish came in the 2022/23 season, where they secured second place with 84 points, marking their most competitive campaign in years.
Despite this progress, Arsenal has not surpassed the 90-point mark.
Now Pep Guardiola has offered his thoughts on the matter.
What did Pep Guardiola say about Arsenal and Liverpool?
The Spaniard will arrive at Anfield amidst the worst patch of form in his Manchester City career.
The team is on a six-match winless streak across all competitions, including a recent 4-0 home defeat to Tottenham and a 3-3 draw against Feyenoord that can only be described as capitulation.
Speaking in his pre-Liverpool press conference, Guardiola openly stated Liverpool and Anfield is always the ‘toughest one’, echoing sentiments from Bernardo Silva earlier this season.
“Always has been the toughest one,” he said.
“Last [few] years has been Arsenal as well but, of course, Liverpool has been the toughest one, definitely.
“They are in really good form, so powerful in all departments, especially in the boxes.
Nothing changed, they’re doing really well.”
The City boss also lamented all the injuries his team has sustained this season, saying:
“What I would ask, not the results, is the players back,” he added.
“That is what I would like?
I would just ask the players back to have the team that we create at the beginning of the season to go and do what we are.”
“From the beginning of the season, we could not have that.
