Atletico Madrid are reportedly weighing up a move for Darwin Nunez after the Liverpool forward admitted that he is low on confidence at Anfield.

The Uruguay international is in his third season with the Reds since joining from Benfica in a potential club-record deal but has struggled to win the trust of new head coach Arne Slot.

The 25-year-old, who was a substitute for Sunday's League Cup final defeat to Newcastle United at Wembley, has scored just seven goals from 40 appearances for Liverpool this season.

However, Give Me Sport reports that the 25-year-old is being touted by La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid, with Antoine Griezmann's second stint at the Wanda Metropolitano set to come to an end.

Griezmann, who rejoined Atletico Madrid in 2022 after a failed stint at Barcelona, is reportedly a target for Major League Soccer side Los Angeles FC.

If the 2018 World Cup winner were to depart Atletico, GiveMeSport claims that the Spaniards could explore the possibility of signing Nunez on an initial deal with an obligation to buy at the end of the season.

It is claimed that an obligation to sign the Uruguayan on a permanent would be for around £30m.

On Tuesday, Nunez admitted that he is not performing well and is low on confidence after he reported for international duty with Uruguay.

"I'm happy thinking about the national team, enjoying every minute with it,” he said, as quoted by El Pais.

Let him run a lot, play well, and then not be able to score a goal.

"I'm strong in my head since my family always supports me, and that's the important thing to keep working and bring joy to everyone, like beating Argentina to get the three points.

"(I want) to forget a little about what's happening there (at Liverpool), and besides, there's nothing more beautiful for a player than wearing your country's jersey."
