German newspaper BILD has provided their latest on Liverpool with the January transfer window.
The mere mention of transfers has become a source of frustration for Liverpool supporters, as the club’s approach to both incoming signings and contract renewals continues to draw criticism.
Liverpool’s transfer activity has been notably sparse, with Federico Chiesa being the only significant arrival across the past three windows.
And even then, the Italian arrived as a work-in-progress and not a ready-made option to bolster the ranks.
As a result, new sporting director Richard Hughes has found himself under increasing pressure.
Having arrived with high expectations alongside Michael Edwards, Hughes has faced criticism for both the lack of transfer activity and the stalled contract negotiations.
Despite Liverpool’s strong position in the Premier League, there are growing concerns that the lack of reinforcements could prove costly?
The club’s decision to wait rather than strengthen immediately represents a significant gamble on their title aspiration,
And as Jamie Carragher outlines, this could lead to a scenario where FSG could be questioned.
But for now, it seems the Liverpool links from across the continent are not ceasing despite the bubbling unrest on Merseyside.
BILD confirm Liverpool transfer news
Chief BILD football reporter Christian Falk has linked Xavi Simons with a potential move to Anfield in the summer.
The situation is a strange one as RB Leipzig have just completed Simons’ permanent transfer from PSG for an initial €50 million, potentially rising to €80 million with add-ons.
The 21-year-old has signed a contract until 2027, but Leipzig are already willing to negotiate his departure according to the report.

Taking to X, the BILD reporter said that the Bundesliga club is ‘open’ to the departure of Xavi Simmons with Liverpool amongst the clubs monitoring the €80-rated attacker:
“RB Leipzig are open to sell Xavi Simons (21) in the summer.”
“The club is willing to negotiate a sum of €70/€80 million.
“Manchester United, FC Liverpool and Manchester City observe his situation, his new contract at Leipzig is until 2027.”
Liverpool’s reported interest in the attacker is nothing new, with the FC Bayern Insider Podcast claiming last year that the Reds were ‘very interested’ in Simons last summer.
We all know that Liverpool love to crunch the numbers when it comes to identifying transfer targets, and Simons’ underlying statistics paint a picture of a strong performer at a young age:

The potential quick sale from RB Leipzig has raised eyebrows especially considering Simons’ impressive record of 15 goals and 19 assists in 60 games for the German club.
But it could be that the intention from Leipzig was always to make a quick profit from the Dutchman – and it may well have been their objective when they opened talks to sign him on a permanent from PSG.
