Liverpool had to settle for a point against Aston Villa on Wednesday as they missed a big chance to enhance their lead in the Premier League title race.
The Reds put themselves in a good position in the first-half at Villa Park, going 1-0 up after half an hour.
As it often is, it was that man Mohamed Salah again for Liverpool.
The Egyptian King latched onto Diogo Jota’s square ball to fire the Reds ahead.
From there Liverpool lost a bit of a grip on the game.
Villa hit back through Youri Tielemans before Ollie Watkins made it 2-1.
Trent Alexander-Arnold did level things for the Reds after an hour and that’s the way it ended.
Despite a decent point on the road at Villa Park, though, they were left to rue some missed chances on the night.
But according to former Liverpool captain Phil Thompson, Salah takes a portion of the blame, too.

Nunez’s miss truly was horrendous and will have Liverpool fans worrying that it could have put a dent in their Premier League title bid.
The Reds are still eight points ahead of Arsenal, but having played a game more than the Gunners, they keep giving them chances to be reeled in.

In fairness to Nunez he was not the only one culpable for Liverpool, though.
Robbie Fowler was unimpressed by Diogo Jota after the Portuguese missed a glorious one-on-one chance with Emi Martinez at 1-1.
But even before that, with the score 0-0, Salah somehow directed a header off target when found brilliantly by Andy Robertson.

Speaking to LFCTV after the game, Thompson claimed that the 32-year-old’s failure to test the goalkeeper was ‘baffling’.
“It was three on target and you think of the quality of the chances,” he said.
And certainly Diogo’s one where he has his shot, but he also had a header, which he’s really good at, which he should have at least been hitting the target and making the goalkeeper make the save.”
Thompson is right to highlight the missed chances from both Salah and Jota as a reason Liverpool couldn’t get the three points at Villa Park.
In fairness to Mo, he was one of the Reds better players on Wednesday and once again ended the game with a goal and an assist.
But his header in the first-half was a clear chance that he should have done better with.
Clearly, neither Salah nor Jota had the worst miss of the night, though, with the prize comfortably landing in the lap of Nunez.
The Uruguayan has cost Liverpool in the past and this feels like one that could come back and haunt them again.
