Liverpool’s chances of landing Xavi Simons may have just received a massive boost.
Bayern Munich, once seen as a major threat for the Dutchman’s signature, are no longer in the running.
It’s a rare break in the transfer market that could work heavily in Liverpool’s favour.
The Reds have been linked with Simons for months, but Bayern’s strong interest last summer raised concerns.
The German champions have a track record of snapping up top young talents before Premier League clubs get a chance.
Players like Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies show how ruthless Bayern can be in the market.
This time, though, Liverpool’s patience could finally be rewarded.
According to Christian Falk, Bayern Munich had “concrete talks with Xavi Simons of RB Leipzig” last summer.
Max Eberl and Vincent Kompany, two key figures behind Bayern’s transfer moves, led those discussions.
However, speaking exclusively to CF Bayern Insider, Falk explained, “He will be on the market this summer, but Bayern Munich are not in a position where they want to make a bid for him.”
“I think he’ll go to the Premier League.”
The change in Bayern’s plan is clear.
They have shifted all their focus onto Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz.
To land the 21-year-old, Bayern are prepared to make sacrifices like letting Thomas Müller leave and freeing up wages.
Statistically, Wirtz justifies the decision.
He has 28 goal contributions in 41 games this season — second only to Bruno Fernandes across Europe’s top five leagues.
Meanwhile, Simons has managed 16 goal contributions in 29 games and averages one every 151.06 minutes compared to Wirtz’s 108.57 minutes.
With Bayern choosing Wirtz as their “Plan A,” Liverpool have a real shot at Xavi Simons.
His €70m [£59.7m] price tag remains, but without Bayern in the picture, the Premier League — and more importantly, Anfield — could be his next destination.
