Late last year, the ex-England striker was scheduled for an ‘unforgettable evening’ at The Devenish Complex on Friday March 21, promoted by professional boxer, Mathew Fitzy, in association with Cash Cars and Lucky Stars.

An Evening with Robbie Fowler was touted as “a night filled with laughter, stories, and insights from his illustrious career.”

“This in-person event will take place at The Devenish Complex, providing a perfect setting for an intimate experience with one of football's greats.

In an email sent to ticket holders on Wednesday evening, it said the event "can’t go ahead” and they would be issuing refunds.

“We are very sorry to announce that we have had to cancel our event "An evening with Robbie Fowler" this decision hasn't been taken lightly especially so close to the date, it is however completely out of our control and the event can't go ahead.

"We will be going through the refund process, will be in touch with each ticket buyer individually in the coming week to arrange refunds.

"Not sure why’re you’re promoting this when I was told yesterday that this was cancelled,” Fowler wrote on X, formerly Twitter, after reposting a tweet promoting the event from Clubroom Sport, which has since been deleted.

In response to a fan who asked the Liverpool star why the event was cancelled, Fowler said: “Haven't a clue mate...

had my weekend all planned too.”

The Belfast Telegraph understands the event was cancelled due to ticket sales and "some backlash with the choice of venue" and not due to anything involving Fowler.

It's also understood a last minute change of venue was attempted, but was not possible due to the short time frame.

The Devenish last promoted the event last month with a personal video message on its social media from the footballer.

When contacted, one of the event’s sponsors R Kings Competitions said they were unaware the event had been cancelled.
