Ben Doak made his mark on his first start for Scotland as he sent a clear – and timely – reminder to Liverpool.
The 18-year-old – currently on loan at Championship side Middlesbrough – was handed his full debut for his nation as they took on Croatia in the Nations League on Saturday.
Despite Scotland falling to a 2-1 defeat in Zagreb, Doak certainly made a big impression.
The teenager played a big hand in the visitors’ opener, driving at Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol before sending in a cross that Croatia was unable to deal with, leading to Ryan Christie giving Scotland the lead.
And Doak continued to take the game to Croatia in a display that has got the media north of the border more than a little excited.
In their player ratings, the Daily Record awarded Doak an 8 out of 10, their highest score of the night, stating: “We’re all looking for a source of hope and the 18-year-old Liverpool kid is it.
Had a part in Christie’s goal but needs to tidy up his final ball.”
Awarding the youngster a 7, The Herald surmised: “Thrown in for his first start and lived up to the hype.

Meanwhile, the Edinburgh Evening News also awarded him a 7, saying: “Earning his first senior start, the 18-year-old was always going to be in for a tough test up against the experienced Gvardiol, but managed to force the Man City star into a few early mistakes.
"The injuries [in the squad] have probably accelerated his first start and it was good.
"We can build on that then we can assess whether he's ready to start again on Tuesday night.
"Let's enjoy Ben but let's not put too much pressure on him
