Trent Alexander-Arnold’s match-winning goal against Leicester City and subsequent shirt-off celebration have reignited intense speculation about his future, with Real Madrid increasingly confident of securing the Liverpool vice-captain’s signature this summer.
The 26-year-old’s emotional reaction to his decisive strike—combined with his refusal to address contract talks—has left fans and pundits reading between the lines of what could be a valedictory moment in his Anfield career.
When pressed post-match, Alexander-Arnold remained evasive: “I’ve said all season I’m not going to speak on my situation.”
“Days like today are special—scoring, winning, being close to titles.
These moments will stay with me forever.”
Manager Arne Slot likewise deflected similar questions, instead praising his commitment.
The celebration split opinion among supporters.
While some interpreted it as a farewell, others believed it could be a sign of an Alexander-Arnold U-turn.
Fabrizio Romano does not think so however, and claims that the celebration was “showing his commitment to Liverpool and how important it is for him to win the title to show his love for Liverpool until the very end.”
But former footballer turned content creator Ben Foster believes there may be more to the celebration than meets the eye.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Foster believes it would be strange to do such a passionate celebration and then leave – and also feels that the way he looked at the fans also gave a hint:
“Do you know when he scores his goal and goes and celebrates the way he did… by taking his shirt off..
I’m trying to think.
“If that was me in that situation and I’m taking my shirt off and I’m looking at the crowd.
I think we can read into this a little bit.”
“When you score a goal and run to the crowd, and you see that love and adoration.”
It certainly was a strong celebration for someone who is supposed to be leaving in a few weeks.
Liverpool could seal the title as early as Wednesday if Arsenal lose to Crystal Palace.
Otherwise, a win against Tottenham on Sunday would confirm their crown at Anfield—a stage for Alexander-Arnold’s potential farewell.
