'Best I've worked with': International manager says Liverpool have a 'high level' player who has so much ability

Another break in action is coming for Liverpool as their players get ready to jet off for international action.

During these early parts of the season it can feel like there’s a pause in play just a little too often.

The break next week will be the third of the campaign already.

With Liverpool in such good form, the timing of that is not ideal.

Nevertheless, it does give those members of the Liverpool squad selected for their nations the chance to build on things and come back even stronger.

One player who will perhaps be looking forward to the next two weeks more than most is Curtis Jones.

Jones has been picked once again for England and after departing the last camp early for the birth of his baby daughter, the Liverpool academy graduate will be desperate to make his debut this time around.

It feels a little off that now almost 24, Jones is still yet to make his international debut for England.

There are reasons for that, mainly the fact that the Scouser has often been injured just when he’s hitting form for Liverpool.

After Jones wowed against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday, the midfielder is now in one of those moments.

And speaking via the official England X page after including Jones in his squad to face Greece and Ireland, interim Three Lions boss Lee Carsley justified his selection.

“Curtis is an all-round player, plays in various positions,” Carsley explained.

“He’s a player that I highly rate, one of the best players I’ve worked with in terms of his ability.

“I think he’s shown a real consistent level of playing every week now, or most weeks especially, at a high level.

“He’s shown that he can score goals, he can assist and a player that we’ve had a lot of success working with in the past,” added the former Everton midfielder.

“So, a player that I’m really looking forward to working with.”

As ever with international breaks, the main concern for Liverpool is getting everyone back to Anfield fit and available to go again.

Given Jones’ history with injuries, that will perhaps be amplified in his case.

After a quiet beginning to the campaign, Arne Slot is now seeing the best of what Jones can offer to Liverpool.

At this stage, being called up and playing for England can only be a good thing for his development.

But until Curtis is back on Merseyside on the other side of that, there will remain a worry for the Liverpool head coach that his in-form Scouser will come back crocked.
