Liverpool face PSG next week in what is being billed as the headline fixture in the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League.

The Premier League and Ligue 1 leaders have been in excellent form of late with Liverpool well on course to lift the English championship under Arne Slot having opened a 13-point lead over Arsenal with ten games left to play.

With Luis Diaz now hinting that he could stay at Liverpool amid ongoing speculation surrounding the winger’s future, things are looking up in a big way for the Reds, who will be confident in getting a result against PSG and progressing to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

And PSG manager Luis Enrique has now shared his honest verdict on Liverpool’s quality this season ahead of their mouthwatering series in Europe’s premier club competition.

Speaking to the press after last night’s 4-1 win against LOSC Lille, the former FC Barcelona manager still named Liverpool as ‘possibly the best team in Europe’ right now heading into Tuesday’s fixture, with Enrique seemingly excited for what’s to come against the Anfield side.

Enrique said when asked about PSG’s chances against Liverpool in the Champions League: “It’s what I’ve said from day one, we’re not here to sit back.

“We’re going up against what’s possibly the best team in Europe, a team that qualified brilliantly.

Maybe we’re facing a team that’s a mirror image of ourselves.

But we won’t sit back, not here and not at Anfield.”

Liverpool’s encounter with PSG is set to be an explosive affair given the form both sides are in, and for Enrique, the former Spain manager believes the tie will be a close one, especially with the Ligue 1 giants putting on such a good display this weekend against Lille.

Enrique said: “Everyone’s entitled to their opinion.

We’ve put together a strong season from the start, of course, there are things to improve, like any team.

When you think of all the chances we created, plus scoring four goals against a team like Lille, one of the best sides in the Champions League, reducing them to almost nothing is incredibly difficult, and it shows where we’re at.
