All season long there has been news that Liverpool supporters have been waiting patiently for.
It has been a tremendous campaign for the Reds and looks very likely to end in Premier League title glory.
But while things have been going so well on the pitch, there has been a shadow hanging over Anfield off it.
As the clock has ticked down on the 2024/25 season, time has been running out on the contracts of captain Virgil van Dijk and top scorer Mohamed Salah.
With both players performing at – and even surpassing – their usual, incredible levels, there has been real nervousness that both could leave Liverpool at the end of the campaign.
Thankfully, on Wednesday night, the news all Liverpool supporters have been desperate to hear took a step closer.
As journalist David Ornstein confirmed, Van Dijk and Salah are closing in on signing their long-awaited contract extensions.

In recent weeks it has started to look inevitable that both Van Dijk and Salah would sign fresh terms to stay on at Liverpool.
And on Wednesday, that finally became public knowledge.
With plenty of outlets already running the big story, Ornstein took to X to add a little more detail.

While claiming that both players are set to extend with Liverpool, the respected journalist revealed that Van Dijk and Salah will sign on to two more years at Anfield.
“Mohamed Salah + Virgil van Dijk closing in on signing new 2yr contracts with Liverpool,” says Ornstein.

“Both players into final months of existing deals but breakthrough found in negotiations & fresh terms set to extend key pair at LFC until summer 2027.”
Adding some more colour in an article for The Athletic, Ornstein also mentions the third Liverpool player out of contract this summer: Trent Alexander-Arnold.
And although there is no necessarily negative news on Alexander-Arnold, it does not sound especially positive at this juncture, either.
Ornstein simply reports that Real Madrid are ‘working to close’ a deal for the Liverpool right-back.
There are no further details given of whether the Reds are still pushing to convince Alexander-Arnold to change his mind at this stage.
For now, it looks safe to work on the assumption that while Van Dijk and Salah are set to stay put, Trent is all ready to leave.
All things told, Liverpool supporters will likely take that.
