Brighton & Hove Albion CEO Paul Barber has discussed his sides’ chances of selling the likes of Carlos Baleba, Kaoru Mitoma, and other coveted Brighton stars.
The 21-year-old Cameroonian midfielder has caught the attention of several top Premier League clubs, and reports suggest the Reds are among the sides interested.
His defensive capabilities are particularly impressive, ranking second in the league with 36 interceptions earlier this season.
Premier League statistics show he has made 57 interceptions and 105 tackles with a 52% tackle success rate across his appearances.

Baleba’s passing ability is another standout attribute, maintaining a pass completion rate of approximately 88%.
This season, he has contributed 2 goals and 1 assist for Brighton in the Premier League, showing he can also offer an offensive threat when required.
It’s fair to say the south coast club will look to make a big profit margin after he joined from Lille in 2023 for £23.2m.
Brighton & Hove Albion have built a reputation as one of the Premier League’s most effective talent developers and sellers, consistently identifying young prospects, nurturing them, and then moving them on for significant profits.
The club’s model, under owner Tony Bloom, has delivered remarkable results, but history shows that even Brighton’s resolve has its limits—most notably demonstrated by Alexis Mac Allister’s £35 million transfer to Liverpool in 2023, a deal that ultimately benefited both clubs.
Currently, Brighton holds a strong negotiating position regarding Carlos Baleba.
The Cameroonian international is under contract until 2028, with the club retaining an option to extend for an additional year Baleba’s weekly wage stands at £12,500, and with more than three years left on his deal, Brighton are under no pressure to sell
But according to Barber, it’s in the club’s model to eventually sell the likes of Baleba:
“Well, we know that our best players are always going to be sought after by bigger clubs, with big budgets,” said Barber as quoted by the Sussex World.
“But we’d love to keep our best players for as long as we can, but part of our model is being prepared to sell at the right time.”
“We’re not saying that’s going to be this summer, but certainly in the future, we know that that’s probably likely to happen.”
Brighton has established itself as a renowned talent factory, and it seems that Baleba is being groomed for another lucrative sale by the south coast club.
Carlos Baleba has made 35 appearances for Brighton in all competitions during the 2024/25 season, with 31 of those coming as a starter.
