Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong is reportedly "on the verge" of agreeing a move to Liverpool - which would see Celtic bank a bumper sell-on payday.

The Hoops have been prolific in the transfer market in recent seasons - banking bumper paydays for the likes of Kyogo Furuhashi, Matt O'Riley and Jota.

Frimpong is another name who commanded a hefty payday - having made the switch the Bundesliga in an £11million deal that allowed Frimpong to leave the club for Leverkusen back in January 2021.

And Celtic are still looking to cash-on the full-back as they hold a 30 percent sell-on clause as part of the deal that took him to Leverkusen.

The full-back has been a key figure in helping Xabi Alonso's side claim an historic first Bundesliga title and an unbeaten domestic campaign last year - and has remained a key figure for the club this term both domestically and in the Champions League.

The former Celtic defender also saw his his star rise at Euro 2024 with the Netherlands and the likes of Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Real Madrid have all been touted as potential destinations.

The Premier League leaders have reportedly stolen a march on their rivals with Defensa Central stating a deal in the region of £30million to take the 24-year-old to Anfield.

It comes with Trent Alexander-Arnold set to leave Merseyside for Real Madrid at the end of his contract.

It could fulfil a dream for Frimpong - who has admitted he campe close to joining Liverpool as youngster before making a switch to the Manchester City academy ranks.

Speaking to Rising Ballers last month, he revealed: "I was playing striker and scored a hat-trick in a final, I won player of the tournament.

There were scouts there like Liverpool, Bolton, Man City and a lot more were present.

"But I chose Liverpool first.

I was going to sign for them but back then, driving wasn't a thing, my family wasn't driving like that and it was far.

"And obviously, Man City was local so I tried Man City next and it made more sense.

It was 15 minutes on the bus, so yeah."
