The news broke this week that the Liverpool chapter of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s career is coming to an end.
The right-back is out of contract with the Merseyside club at the end of the season and having failed to reach an agreement with the Premier League leaders, Alexander-Arnold will join Real Madrid ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
Despite the expectancy over this news breaking from Liverpool fans, it caught both the player and the La Liga champions by surprise, as a new report has thrown a twist into this saga.

It is still expected that the Liverpool star will depart Anfield this summer, with the Spanish press already discussing how Alexander-Arnold will fit in at Real Madrid.
The full-back will not have it all his own way should he arrive in Spain, with Alexander-Arnold warned about Dani Carvajal’s presence at Real Madrid.
MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES
“Liverpool have made Alexander-Arnold lucrative offers to remain, but they understand the attraction of a new challenge, a fresh life and lifestyle experience, and the lure of being a Real player,” Reddy wrote.
“Both Real Madrid and Trent Alexander-Arnold were aligned in showing surprise at the stories that emerged this week, given nothing major has changed since January – no agreement has been reached, no deal has been signed, nor has a conclusion been communicated to either club.”
This is a major update in the saga, however, Alexander-Arnold is still expected to move to Spain, which will leave Liverpool to focus on Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.
New contracts for Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk will have an impact on the business Liverpool can do this summer, therefore, it is a situation that the Reds need to sort out quickly.
“The optimism is still strong that the pair will remain.”
This will come as a major relief for Liverpool fans as the longer the situation goes on, the more worried supporters will be that the key duo will leave following the Alexander-Arnold news that emerged this week.
