Chelsea's head coach, Enzo Maresca, has labeled January as "a disaster" for the club due to the transfer speculation surrounding his squad.
Several players have been rumored to be on the move, and the 44-year-old is worried that it's impacting the team's focus as they aim to break a five-match winless streak in the Premier League against Wolves on Monday.
Cole Palmer may not play in the game at Stamford Bridge, adding to Maresca's troubles, which are further exacerbated by fitness concerns for Levi Colwill, Romeo Lavia, and Enzo Fernandez, none of whom trained on Friday.
Ben Chilwell, Carney Chukwuemeka and Cesare Casadei have all been informed that they can seek new clubs this month.
"On the pitch, for sure I would like to win more games, but I'm OK," said Maresca, whose team hasn't won a league match since Dec.
"Off the pitch it's a disaster because so many noises that I don't think help us, but I don't think they help any club."
Chelsea's recent dip in form has been a talking point for assistant coach Maresca, who acknowledged the challenges of keeping players focused amid transfer rumors.
When there is any noise about some player, it's not easy, because even if you think the player can be focused on us, in the end it's a human being," Maresca said.
The performances are there (but) sometimes you don't win games," Maresca continued
It's a moment for all of us."
On the decision to recall Trevoh Chalobah from his loan at Crystal Palace, Maresca explained it was straightforward due to the team's injury woes
