Clarence Seedorf believes Liverpool are one of the teams to beat in this season's Champions League.

The Reds had a 100 percent record going into their showdown with Bayer Leverkusen after wins over AC Milan, Bologna and RB Leipzig.

Liverpool have shown little sign of a post-Jurgen Klopp hangover in the Premier League, sitting top of the table after 10 matches, suffering just one defeat.

Arne Slot's side have been impressive beating Chelsea, coming from behind to beat Brighton as well as earning a point at title rivals Arsenal - after trailing twice.

While there is still a scepticism over the Reds' title credentials in England's top-flight.

Seedorf, the iconic Dutch footballer, is under no illusions that Liverpool are challengers for the elite European competition after it's restructuring.

"I would," said the four-time Champions League winner, discussing whether Liverpool are one of the best team's in Europe.

"Anyway, when you come to Liverpool (or) certain clubs in Europe, you can say that because the history of the club says enough - especially what they've done this season.

It's clear that they are one of the teams to beat for sure."

He added: "I had a similar situation when I was in Madrid with (Fabio) Capello, he was there for a year then he won the league then he left.

"We had such a strong chemistry going on already, he had to be really smart and not ruin things, keep on going.

"That's intelligence and I'm sure over time, I'm sure we'll see Slot's ideas, you're not going to change something that is functioning, that's what he's doing which is a great deal."

The discussion was sparked after Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso described his former club as the best team in Europe.
