In football, injuries are part of the game.
Every player faces setbacks, but the best ones always find a way to bounce back.
For Liverpool, staying at the top of the Premier League table is no small task, and every player needs to be at their best.
When a key attacker misses games, the team feels it.
Cody Gakpo has been one of Liverpool’s most important players this season.
With 16 goals and five assists across all competitions, he has played a crucial role in the Reds’ success.
But recently, he had to sit out for two games.
A knock picked up in the Merseyside derby against Everton kept him sidelined.
Missing games is frustrating for any player, especially in a title race.
But now, he is back, and he’s ready to contribute again.
Cody Gakpo: I had an injury
Gakpo spoke to Liverpoolfc.com about his injury and return, making it clear how much he wanted to get back on the pitch.
“True.
[It was] a little bit unlucky in the Everton game,” he said.
“But yeah, we did everything, the medical staff and myself obviously, to come back as quick as possible.”
“[I’m] very happy that I can be back and hopefully now I don’t miss any games anymore.”
He returned in Sunday’s 2-0 win over Manchester City, coming off the bench to help his team secure a massive three points.
The dressing room was buzzing after the win, but the focus remained on the bigger picture.
“The captain [Virgil van Dijk] did as well to just keep us calm and keep us focused at the games ahead because the season is not finished with this win,” Gakpo revealed.
With 11 games left, Liverpool knows there is still a long way to go.
Gakpo and the rest of the squad are determined to keep fighting for each other until the very end.
