Winning trophies is what every footballer dreams of.
Some players get their hands on silverware early, while others have to fight for years before lifting their first major title.
But one thing never changes – the feeling of winning.
Liverpool know this well.
The club has built a squad full of winners, and as they chase more success this season, one player is clear about the team’s mindset.
Cody Gakpo has already experienced trophy success with Liverpool.
But for him, it is never enough.
Cody Gakpo: Lifting a trophy is the goal
When asked in an interview with Sky Sports if the feeling of lifting a trophy ever changes, Gakpo was clear: “No, I don’t think, uh, I don’t – I don’t think it will change.”
“I think, uh, if you – you play to win, and at the end, lifting a trophy is the goal you’re working towards the whole year.”
Liverpool are still in the hunt for multiple trophies this season, and Gakpo believes the team is on the right track.
He said, “It could well be one of two trophies.
Hopefully, it will be one of, uh, one of two – two trophies this season.”
Looking back, Gakpo pointed to one key moment that gave Liverpool the belief they could compete at the top.
“It was the Manchester United game at Old Trafford that gave us the confidence we really thought that we could go on to achieve something this season,” he said.
Gakpo also reflected on last season’s struggles, knowing they must learn from the past.
“Last season wasn’t a nice experience at that time, but the experience we took from that moment… I think that will help us,” he said.
Liverpool remain focused, and for Gakpo, it is simple: “That’s our goal this Sunday – to win again for the second time.”
Liverpool face Newcastle United at Wembley stadium today at 17:30pm GMT.
