Cody Gakpo has hinted he is hopeful that Trent Alexander-Arnold will sign a new contract following Liverpool's Premier League title triumph.

With the title secure, Alexander-Arnold joining Real Madrid as a free agent could become a trending topic once again especially now contract extensions for both Salah and Virgil van Dijk have been confirmed.

On his return from injury, the 26-year-old scored the winner against Leicester City and was unsurprisingly asked about his future after the game.

"I have said all season that I am not going to speak on my situation," he told Sky Sports.

Scoring goals, playing games, winning games, winning titles - they are special moments for me and I am glad to do my part."

And Alexander-Arnold certainly played a role in the victory that secured the league as it was his cross that Udogie turned into his own net.

In the celebrations, he was full of emotion which saw some suggest he could yet stay and it looks as though the Liverpool squad, through Gakpo's words, have also not ruled out a huge U-turn.

"I think the group didn’t change much from last season, so now you can build on the team as well," he told LFCTV after the game.

"Now with Mo and Virgil staying – and hopefully Trent as well – then you can keep building on that team for many years to come."

Though not quite a clear-cut verdict that he may remain at the club, it does not look as though he has officially communicated his plans to his teammates yet either way.

Therefore, until everything has been officially agreed, Alexander-Arnold signing an extension remains a possibility.
