Al Nassr have reportedly entered talks with Victor Boniface following reports that the Bayer Leverkusen star was an alternative to Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez.

The Uruguayan has faced transfer speculation this season after enduring a difficult time in front of goal.

The 25-year-old sent a reminder to Reds supporters with his match-winning double against Brentford but prior to his contribution, there were reports that Saudi Arabian clubs were weighing up a possible move.

However, no official bids or approaches have materialised and Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Boniface, who was integral to Xabi Alonso's side winning the Bundesliga last season, is in talks over a move to the Middle East.

In a post on X, he said: "Understand Al Nassr have started official talks for Victor Boniface as new striker!

Negotiations on with Bayer Leverkusen for the Nigerian striker to replace Talisca."

The update follows a claim from Sky Sports Germany's Florian Plettenberg who reported that Saudi Arabia clubs may target the Nigerian and were weighing up the opportunity to buy him - should a move for Nunez fail to happen.

"Various clubs from Saudi Arabia are monitoring Victor #Boniface’s situation and are considering making an offer before Deadline Day if a move for #LFC’s Darwin Núñez does not materialise," he tweeted last week.

Arne Slot admitted prior to his Brentford heroics that the Reds had failed to get the best out of the former Benfica talisman.

But just 24 hours later, Nunez had dragged Liverpool from a frustrating draw in west London to jubilation for the travelling Reds.

"[A reporter] asked me similar things before the game about Darwin and I didn’t agree then that he’s not having a good season," said Slot.

"I think he’s having a good season, where he scores goals, he works very hard for the team, he assists.

But he’s in competition with a lot of good players, so that’s why he’s not every single game on the pitch.

"But I’m very happy with him – not only because he scored today two goals but that, of course, helps – but I’m very happy with the other performances he put in for us as well."
