Darwin Nunez faced a barrage of criticism in the wake of his glaring miss during Liverpool's draw with Aston Villa on Wednesday.
Nunez looked nailed on to score the Reds' third goal of the game — one which could well have proved to be the winner — when Dominik Szoboszlai squared the ball across the penalty area to gift the Uruguayan an apparent tap-in.
However, Nunez somehow managed to sky the ball over the crossbar, leaving head coach Arne Slot with his head in his hands on the touchline.
Nunez is not the most popular figure among Reds fans on social media, and that miss prompted a number of frustrated reactions on X.
“These Darwin Nunez misses don’t even make me angry anymore," one wrote, while another said: “I just cannot put up with Nunez any longer, regardless of whether he's a cult hero or not.”

One rather cruel user wrote: “I am done with Darwin Nunez.

Arne Slot reacts to Aston Villa draw

It was a great game but I am not happy with the result.
“I felt we defended well but I can’t come up with a lot of Villa chances
