Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez couldn't resist a tongue-in-cheek jibe at his doubters following the club's Premier League title triumph.

The Reds cruised to their 20th top-flight crown after an emphatic 5-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Luis Diaz, Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah were on target for Liverpool as they coasted to glory in style after bouncing back from an early setback, when Dominic Solanke opened the scoring.



Arne Slot's side hit back within four minutes and went for the jugular with the North London club on the receiving end of a ferocious display.

Nunez came on as a late substitute during the encounter with the winner's medals already wrapped up.

However, the Uruguayan striker has come underfire in recent weeks with his future coming under scrutiny on Merseyside.

The 25-year-old seemingly deleted a tweet on his X account on the eve of their coronation as Premier League champions after taking aim at his lack of involvement - after reports emerged from Portugal to suggest that he had been left out of Arne Slot's starting 11 with the Reds forced to pay €5million if he made another start.

And on Sunday after their triumph, he couldn't resist firing a dig at his doubters following an intense period under the microscope at Anfield.

Posing with a bottle of lager and a cigar in one hand while wearing the Premier League winners shirt, he wrote: "Premier League champion, let them tell it however they want."

Nunez has netted just five times in the Premier League this term but two of them came in the crucial late win over Brentford at the G-tech Stadium.

The Dutch head coach has been forced to respond to speculation surrounding the former Benfica talisman following reports of a rift before the questions on the clause for 60 Liverpool starts.

"Do you always believe what journalists say?

Me neither," said Slot on the reported €5million clause to Benfica on Friday.

"Sometimes you should, but sometimes it’s better not to believe everything that is written about players.

"This is completely new to me and I’ve said many times that I’m working at a club here where it’s really nice to work.

"So mainly sporting directors are judged by the players they bring in, for me it’s very important to have a great working environment and I have that with Richard (Hughes).

"The last, last, last, last, last thing he would do, as I expect working with him for 10 months, is tell me ‘if you play him it would cost us this much’.

"That, he would never, never, never do.

"I don’t even know if it’s true, yes or no, because we never talk about that.
