Darwin Nunez could have had his head turned by interest from other clubs, it's been claimed(Image: Alex Caparros - UEFA/UEFA via Getty Images)
Liverpool have been given a word of caution about Darwin Nunez's intentions after he was recently called out by Arne Slot.
The Reds head coach criticised the Uruguay forward for his conduct as his work rate dropped following a squandered opportunity in last week's 2-2 draw at Aston Villa.
Slot said: "I think it got too much in his head, where he wasn't the usual Darwin that works his a*** off and makes sure he helps the team...
That is something we will talk about." Nunez has found it difficult to stake a claim for a place in Slot's starting XI this season, with Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz all hitting form.
The Dutch head coach would later praise the player's improvement in effort in training and team-mate Virgil van Dijk insists the 25-year-old still has "a big role to play" at Liverpool this term.
With reported overtures from Saudi Arabian teams during the winter transfer market and Atletico Madrid being forced to deny any interest, questions remain about the forward's plans.
Ex-Manchester United stopper Ben Foster suspects that Nunez might already be considering a move away from Anfield.
He's not even doing that now, and that smells of a player that's already had his head turned."

Following a discussion with Slot last week, Nunez appeared to step up his efforts, but Foster suggested the tide might have already have turned against him.
With Liverpool facing uncertainty regarding the future of several key players, Foster underlined the need for club chiefs to shore up their attack in the summer.

He said: "I don't think Nunez is a weak link, because he's a handful, and any defence coming up against him would worry about him, because he's so physically capable.
