Darwin Nunez was given welcome game time while Virgil van Dijk was sent off as Liverpool players suffered a frustrating evening during the latest round of international matches.
Nunez has struggled for minutes under new Reds boss Arne Slot so far this campaign and was initially expected to still be suspended for Uruguay for his part in the Copa America controversy in the summer.
But a successful appeal from his country meant he is now available to play, and he featured for the full 90 minutes in Uruguay's surprise 1-0 World Cup qualifying defeat in Peru.
?
The Uruguay media, though, absolved Nunez from blame and highlighted the Liverpool forward as one of his team's better players, with El Pais saying "he was the one who tried the most but was very alone in attack".

Four Liverpool players were involved in UEFA Nations League clash between Hungary and Holland in Budapest.
Dominik Szoboszlai and Van Dijk skippered the respective sides, while Ryan Gravenberch and Cody Gakpo also started for Holland with the latter assisting his team's goal in a 1-1 draw.
?
Van Dijk, though, was dismissed for two quickfire yellow cards after a booking for dissent was swiftly followed by another for a foul and a subsequent first red card at international level.
"(The red card) is a bummer, should not have happened," said Van Dijk to ESPN after the game.
If even the captain can not say anything, then it gets difficult."
Van Dijk will now miss the clash against Germany on Monday in Munich but has no intention of joining up early with Liverpool ahead of their Premier League clash with Chelsea next Sunday.
?
“I am staying with the national team,” he said.
“I want to be there for the group, this will not change."
Lewis Koumas, on loan at Championship side Stoke City, remained on the bench for Wales in their 2-2 UEFA Nations League draw in Iceland, while in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying Mohamed Salah was on target for Egypt in their 2-0 home win over Mauritania.
Elsewhere, both Tyler Morton and Jarell Quansah featured as England under-21s scored twice in the closing moments to beat Ukraine 2-1 in their UEFA U21 European Championship qualifier, although it's likely the Young Lions will need a play-off to progress.
Calvin Ramsay, on loan at Wigan Athletic, came off the bench for Scotland U21s in their 2-0 home defeat to Belgium.
?
Teenage midfielder Trey Nyoni was brought on as substitute and 17-year-old centre-back Carter Pinnington started for England U18s in a 2-0 defeat to Sweden, their first of two games in Marbella during the break.
