It would be fair to say that the 2024/2025 season has been another challenging period for Darwin Nunez at Liverpool.
Despite his £85 million transfer fee, the Uruguayan striker has only contributed seven goals and five assists across all competitions.
His limited playing time is highlighted by just 16 starts out of 35 appearances, with 23 of those coming as a substitute.
Now in his third year at Anfield and having failed to meet the anticipated standards, his future at the club is under considerable security
While Nunez’s effort and determination are evident, his lack of clinical finishing has been a persistent issue.
Recent reports suggest interest from Atletico Madrid in a potential €40 million deal, as well as from clubs in Saudi Arabia.
The 25-year-old’s struggles have been compounded by his recent absence from the starting lineup, having been on the bench for Liverpool’s last three matches before the international break.
His showing with the Uruguayan national team this month has also been less than stellar, adding to the growing uncertainty surrounding his career trajectory.
And while the likes of Atletico Madrid and the Saudi Pro League are believed to keen on the striker, it seems clubs closer to home may also want Darwin Nunez.
That’s because TeamTalk has reported that both Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United are keeping tabs on the Uruguayan’s situation at Anfield.
The Magpies interest comes as Liverpool and Arsenal have shown keen interest in Newcastle’s star forward Alexander Isak.
Despite Newcastle’s determination to retain Isak, they are preparing contingency plans and could demand up to £150 million for his transfer.
In addition to Nunez, Newcastle have compiled a shortlist of striker targets that includes Viktor Gyokeres, Liam Delap, and Victor Boniface
Meanwhile, its added that Nottingham Forest have added Darwin Nunez to their list of potential striker targets for the upcoming summer transfer window.
The club’s manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, has prioritized strengthening the forward line, with Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen also being considered as option.
Forest’s interest in Darwin Nunez comes as they prepare for a possible Champions League campaign next season?
The club is currently on track to secure a top-five finish in the Premier League, which is likely to guarantee Champions League qualification for the 2025-26 season.
Should Forest achieve this milestone, they plan to reinforce multiple positions in their squad.
