Former Premier League referee David Coote has been handed a year-long ban from officiating in UEFA competitions.

Another video of Coote allegedly sniffing white powder was then shared.

That was said to have taken place during Euro 2024, where he was an official.



UEFA have now decided to punish Coote for his actions, and he won't be able to referee any matches on the continent until at least next summer.

A statement from UEFA read: "Mr David Coote Incidents and sanction: General principles of conduct, Art.

11(2)(d) DR, Ban from exercising any UEFA refereeing activity until 30 June 2026."

In the aftermath of the two videos surfacing, Coote issued an apology.

I hope that my experiences, both on and off the field, can be utilised in football at some point in the future.

"Finally, I want to thank everyone who has supported me recently, in particular my family, friends, former colleagues, PGMOL and Howard Webb, and countless people across football.

"Special thanks also to the many strangers who have reached out with words of encouragement and support, I have appreciated it more than I can properly express."

The first video involving Coote saw his contract to referee in the Premier League terminated.

The refereeing body PGMOL said Coote had been found to be 'in serious breach' of his terms of employment and had been removed from his position with immediate effect.

Appearing to reference Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Burnley in July 2020, Coote was asked about the Reds' performance in the game, and replied: "Liverpool were s***."

The referee is then asked about Klopp, to which he responds: "C***, absolute c***".

Asked why he has this opinion, Coote added: "Aside from having a right pop at me when I was reffed them against Burnley in lockdown, then he accused me of lying and then just had a right f---ing pop at me.
