David Moyes has provided his side’s injury latest ahead of the Merseyside derby on Wednesday evening, 8:00 PM BST.
Arne Slot’s league leaders will be looking to bounce back from recent disappointments, while David Moyes’ resurgent Everton aims to extend their impressive unbeaten run in the Premier League.
Liverpool remains at the top of the Premier League table but will be eager to return to winning ways after a difficult period before the international break.
The Reds suffered elimination from the Champions League and lost the Carabao Cup final to Newcastle United.
This two-and-a-half-week pause in domestic action may have come at an opportune time for Slot’s men to regroup and refocus on their title ambitions.
Meanwhile, Everton arrive at Anfield in their best form of the season, currently enjoying a nine-game unbeaten run in the Premier League – their longest such streak since the 2016-17 season under Ronald Koeman.
However, David Moyes’ side have drawn their last four matches, including a 1-1 stalemate with West Ham on March 15 when Jake O’Brien’s 91st-minute header rescued a point.
Ahead of the clash, the Toffees have been grappling with more than a few injury concerns, including to Vitaliy Mykolenko (thigh), Dwight McNeil (knee), and Iliman Ndiaye (knee).
However, Moyes has confirmed that all three have done some training in this week and therefore could be in contention to feature in some capacity.
Speaking in Tuesday’s pre-match press conference at Finch Farm, Moyes said:
“[Mykolenko] has got a bit of an injury but he’s back.
But we still have to wait and see tomorrow exactly how he is.”
“[Ndiaye and McNeil] are both doing great?
Both of them are coming on great – Ili [Ndiaye] is a little bit further on than Dwight [McNeil], at the moment, but it’s great that they’re back in training.”
This leaves Dominic Calvert-Lewin (hamstring) and Orel Mangala (knee) as the only confirmed absentees for Everton, with Moyes confirming that Calvert-Lewin will play no part at Anfield:
“We’re waiting on Dom to come back [but] the rest are all getting much closer to fitness,” the former West Ham boss said.
“I’ve not got a date [for a return] for Dom yet, but, look, he is back on the grass”
