Liverpool face Everton this week in the second and final Merseyside derby of the season.

The game will be an emotionally charged and important one for the Reds as Arne Slot’s side look to take another big step forward in winning the Premier League title, with Liverpool still in a strong position over Arsenal to secure the championship.

On the other side of the battle lines, David Moyes will be making his return to Anfield as Everton manager having returned to the Toffees earlier this season, where the Scottish coach has done an excellent job at dragging Liverpool’s rivals well away from the relegation zone and to Premier League safety.

Indeed, Moyes has a lot of history when it comes to facing Liverpool with Everton, Manchester United and West Ham, yet there’s one moment that stands out with the Reds that fans will remember fondly, as does the Goodison Park manager.

Luis Suarez’s dive celebration is one of the modern-day cornerstones of the Merseyside derby, with the Liverpool cult hero flopping in front of Moyes after scoring against Everton in response to the Scottish coach saying the striker went down too easily.

In a pulsating 2-2 draw where Suarez could have scored a later winner, many fans would have expected Moyes to be fuming with the former Liverpool striker for his outlandish celebration, yet the Everton manager surprised everyone by praising the forward.

Indeed, the moment has lived on in Merseyside derby folklore and beyond, and Moyes saw the funny side of the celebration, with the Scotsman saying: “I thought [the celebration] was great, I actually quite liked that.

“It’s the sort of thing I might have done if we’d scored at the end.

He is going to have to dive in front of a lot of managers now.”

Moyes will be back on the touchline for Everton at Anfield this week for the first time in over a decade, with Liverpool on a quest to secure their second-ever Premier League title as quickly as possible this month.

And having lost the Carabao Cup final and been kicked out of Europe, Liverpool will be out to give a team a nightmare they will not forget having suffered two big losses in March, with Everton the perfect opponents for the Reds.

Indeed, Liverpool might not have a talismanic striker like Suarez leading the line, but the quality is still there for the Anfield side to get a massive result against Everton to set them on their way to the Premier League title once again.
