David Moyes has lavished praise on Mohamed Salah ahead of Liverpool’s meeting with Everton on Wednesday.
Liverpool take on their Merseyside rivals at Anfield in what will be their first game since a 2-1 loss to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final.
The game offers Arne Slot’s side the chance to take one step closer to their 20th league title and avenge a draw that still feels like a loss in the reverse fixture.
The two sides’ last meeting in February 2025 delivered one of the most dramatic chapters in derby history.
James Tarkowski volleyed a 98th-minute equalizer at Goodison Park—the final Merseyside derby at the historic ground—to snatch a 2-2 draw, sparking a pitch invasion and post-match brawl that saw four red cards issued, including to Liverpool manager Arne Slot and assistant Sipke Hulshoff.
Ahead of the game, Moyes, who has never won a game at Anfield, has discussed how he intends to stop Mahmed Salah.
The Scotsman has visited Anfield 19 times without taking home maximum points. His barren run is the Premier League’s joint-most that a manager has registered against a single opponent away from home without a win.
Meanwhile, Salah has been directly involved in eight goals in his last seven Premier League Merseyside derbies (six goals, two assists), both scoring and assisting in this season’s reverse fixture at Goodison Park.
He will be looking to join Chris Sutton and Alan Shearer in becoming just the third player to score and assist in both of their Premier League matches against Everton in a single season.
Discussing the game against Liverpool in his pre-match conference, Moyes proposed a witty solution when asked how to stop Salah.
“Try to build a wall or something!” Moyes said.
“He is such a talented player.
But we did a quite good job on him in the first game?
He’s having an unbelievable season, we’re talking about one of the top players of this generation.”
