Jordan Henderson and Ajax have reached a decision about his future, David Ornstein can confirm.
The former Liverpool captain finds himself at the centre of a transfer saga that has left Ajax fans and management stunned.
Earlier this week, reports emerged that the 34-year-old midfielder, who joined the Dutch giants just a year ago, was attempting to force a move to AS Monaco.
However, his efforts to leave the club were thwarted by the management of Ajax?
The club’s technical director Alex Kroes took a firm stance, rejecting Monaco’s advances for Henderson.
While Henderson and Ajax battled it out, Monaco remained hopeful and were in advanced talks with the player.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Monaco and Henderson were close to agreeing to a deal until June 2026.
However, in a quick twist of events, it was reported that Henderson had made a U-turn and decided to remain at Ajax.
De Telegraaf, who have been reporting on the entire situation, carried the news, revealing that Henderson now shows regret in the manner in which he acted this week.
“After the Ajax win in the Europa League last night, a ‘guilty’ Jordan Henderson spoke with technical director Kroes to promise him that he will remain the Dutch club captain for the rest of the season,” their report stated.
The Athletic’s journalist David Ornstein has now confirmed the news.
David Ornstein’s latest report on Jordan Henderson
According to Ornstein, Henderson discussed his future with the Ajax hierarchy, and both parties came to the conclusion that they would continue together till 2026.
” Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson will stay at Ajax despite an approach from Monaco,” the report said.
“Following talks between Henderson and Ajax it was decided he is to remain in Amsterdam and help the club fight for trophies.”
