The Athletic’s David Ornstein has provided a snippet of information regarding one Liverpool target ahead of the summer transfer window.
It’s common knowledge that the Anfield club is poised to prioritize reinforcing the left-back position this summer, with Andy Robertson’s inconsistent form and Kostas Tsimikas’ long-term prospects prompting a strategic shift in their transfer plans.
The Reds, who have relied on Robertson’s marauding runs since his 2017 arrival, have seen the Scot struggle with injuries and defensive lapses this season.
At 31, it would be prudent for the club to be looking for alternatives.
However, a centre-back signing is also being touted as a distinct possibility, and most Liverpool fans would love nothing more than for the club to meet the £50m release clause and sign Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen.
The 20-year-old center-back, who joined the Cherries from Juventus for £12 million in 2024, has got his pick of European giants showing interest in his services – including Real Madrid.
And now David Ornstein, speaking on NBC Sports, has confirmed the £50m release clause.
He also mentioned that both the player and Bournemouth are expecting a sale and for it to be wrapped up quickly:
“We’ll begin with Dean Huijsen, there’s a £50m release clause in his contract.
He’s the subject of huge interest from the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle United and Tottenham, they’ve all been meeting with his representatives in recent weeks,” David Ornstein said.
“The player and Bournemouth want this done and dusted relatively quickly, he’s expected to be a departure.”
The Reds have already held informal talks with the player in the past weeks and are firmly in the conversation for the Spanish international.
Huijsen’s debut Premier League season has been transformative.
The French defender, entering the final year of his deal, demands wages exceeding £200,000 weekly.
The Cherries’ model—buying low, developing, and selling high—has proven lucrative, with Huijsen’s 12-month appreciation from £12 million to £50 million underscoring their scouting prowess.
Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola was quizzed on the speculation in his recent pre-Fulham press conference last week, saying:
“My only concern with Dean is he keeps his focus here,” Iraola explained.
“I see he trains very well.
