Liverpool’s transfer plans are beginning to slowly take shape as the end of the season comes into view.

The Reds look likely to be busy during the off-season after keeping their powder dry for most of 2024.

Exactly which players are at the top of their list remains to be seen, but it looks probable that Liverpool will go in for a left-back, a centre-back and one or two new forwards.

Meanwhile, more intriguingly, there have also been plenty of links to attacking midfielders.

Fabrizio Romano claims Liverpool want Xavi Simons and with Arne Slot not fully trusting the likes of Harvey Elliott, perhaps he has earmarked that as a spot for improvement.

With that in mind, Liverpool fans would be wise to keep an eye on the situation of Morgan Rogers, with journalist David Ornstein providing an interesting update about the 22-year-old on Thursday.

Rogers has had an excellent first full season with Aston Villa, helping Unai Emery’s side into the quarter-finals of the Champions League and the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

Rogers has scored 12 times and laid on nine assists across 43 appearances and has also made his full England debut during the campaign.

And according to Ornstein, this has alerted some ‘big admirers’ of Rogers, who are watching the attacking midfielder ahead of the transfer window.

“An outgoing wouldn’t come as a huge surprise,” the transfer expert said when asked about Villa transfer news during a Q&A with readers of The Athletic.

“There are always clubs looking at Jacob Ramsey, while Morgan Rogers is generating some big admirers.

“That is not to say these guys are leaving and certainly the club will not want to lose their best players.

But it will be another big summer as Villa look to kick on again.”

Given links to players such as Simons and even Rayan Cherki, it would not be a surprise to see Liverpool go in for someone of this ilk in 2025.

And while both of those players would be exciting additions, we feel Rogers could be a better signing.

The former Man City academy prospect is clearly a big talent and is developing all the time.

He would cost a big fee, but Rogers could be the goal-scoring midfielder Liverpool have been looking for for a while.

Jamie Carragher has already urged Liverpool to sign Rogers and, for our money, he is the kind of profile Slot is missing within the Reds front six.

There may be other priorities for this summer, but Ornstein doesn’t just say things without substance; Rogers clearly has admirers heading into the summer and we’d expect Liverpool are one of those.

Whether they can get him or not, well, that’s another matter.
