David Ornstein has revealed what Liverpool’s transfer priority is as the summer window draws closer.

The Reds clearly have big plans this summer, with at least half a dozen players being linked with a possible move to Anfield in the summer.

The numbers are likely to increase in the coming days, given the current talks around Trent Alexander-Arnold and his widely-reported move to Real Madrid.

The 26-year-old has been tracked by the Spanish club for a while despite being in contact discussions with Liverpool since last year.

It appears that Los Blancos has once again beaten Liverpool to a player, with several outlets reporting that Alexander-Arnold has all but agreed to move to Spain.

Should the vice-captain move to La Liga this summer as expected, Liverpool will need to replace him.

Although the club rates Conor Bradley very highly, it is expected that they will sign a cover for the right-back position.

Jeremie Frimpong and Givario Read are the two major names thought to be on the club’s radar for that position?

Arne Slot is said to be keen on working with Read, having worked with the 18-year-old at Feyenoord.

However, while several right-back options continue to be linked with a move to Liverpool, The Athletic’s David Ornstein has provided inside information on Liverpool’s priority in the full-back area.

The journalist revealed that although Liverpool will likely sign a cover for the right-back position, their current priority is signing a new left-back.

Slot’s side are said to be keen on signing Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez.

Ornstein believes that Liverpool’s ‘heavy links’ to the Hungarian suggest they are currently eager to sign a left-back over a cover right-back.

“Right now, I think left-back is a bigger priority than right-back, given the market possibilities,” he said in his latest weekly Q&A session.

“I’m not saying if Trent Alexander-Arnold leaves, they definitely won’t replace him this summer, I just don’t know of it being top of the to-do list right now.

“You imagine one of Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas will have to leave for recruitment to happen at left back, but the heavy links to Kerkez indicate that is an area of greater focus than RB for the time being.”
