Liverpool has emerged as one of several top European clubs closely monitoring Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen, whose reputation has soared following an outstanding debut for Spain during the recent international break, coupled with a stellar 2024/25 campaign for the Cherries.
The 19-year-old center-back only joined Bournemouth from Juventus last summer for £13 million.
Huijsen, despite being born in Amsterdam, made his senior international debut for Spain during their UEFA Nations League quarter-final against the Netherlands in the March internationals.
He received plenty of attention and applause for his assured showing in such a high-profile game.
The Reds’ interest in Huijsen stems from the club’s desire to plan for the future at center-back, with the Reds last buying a senior central defender in 2021 in the form of Ibrahima Konate.
The 19-year-old has made 27 appearances for Bournemouth in the Premier League as they push for European qualification.
At 6’5?, the Spain international is known for his versatility and technical ability, excelling in playing the ball out from the back.
His impressive statistics highlight why top clubs are vying for his signature:

As mentioned, Liverpool will be far from the only side looking to do some shopping on the south coast this summer.
The club’s possible pursuit is complicated by intense interest from European champions Real Madrid, who are seeking defensive reinforcements for the aging stars of Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba.
While Bournemouth is eager to retain him by offering a new deal, the likelihood of Huijsen staying seems slim, given the interest from top-tier clubs.
Now, the player himself has shed light on his contract situation and addressed speculation about a potential move to Real Madrid during an interview with El Chiringuito TV.
The 19-year-old, who signed a six-year deal with Bournemouth last summer, confirmed that his contract runs until 2030 and includes a release clause.
“I have a contract until 2030, [but] I do have a [release] clause,” Huijsen stated.
It is widely believed that the release clause is worth £50 million – a bargain judging by his potential.
When asked about the possibility of joining Real Madrid, Huijsen remained diplomatic but left the door open for future opportunities.
“I don’t know, we’ll see
Every player wants to play in the maximum [level] possible,” he replied.
He further revealed a lighthearted moment involving a friend who encouraged him to make the move: “A friend called me and said…’Go to Real Madrid’
