Liverpool has emerged as one of several elite European clubs tracking Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen, whose stock has risen dramatically following an impressive debut for Spain during the recent international break on top of what has been an excellent campaign for the Cherries in 2024/25.

The 19-year-old center-back, who only joined Bournemouth last summer, has a £50 million release clause that has attracted attention from across the continent.

Huijsen, despite being born in Amsterdam, made his senior international debut for Spain last week during their UEFA Nations League quarter-final against the Netherlands.

The young defender was called up as a replacement for the injured Inigo Martinez and was thrust into action in the 40th minute when Pau Cubarsí suffered an injury.

Despite facing boos from Dutch fans due to his decision to represent Spain instead of his birth nation, Huijsen delivered a composed performance.

Liverpool interest in Dean Huijsen appears concrete, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirming the Reds have “already made some contacts to understand how the release clause works”.

However, the Merseyside club faces stiff competition for his signature.

“Chelsea are there, excellent relationship with people close to the player, tracking the player for a long time, really appreciated by people at the club,” Romano explained last week.

Other suitors include Newcastle United and Bayern Munich, with the German giants having “sent their scouts several times in September, October, November, December to follow Dean Huijsen.

Real Madrid is also on the scent, which will immediately set off alarm bells for all Liverpool fans.

And now it’s emerged that the player’s father, Don Huijsen, shared the AS article claiming that Los Blancos is interested in his son.

The screenshot, originally shared by Empire of the Kop, has since been deleted by the father.

While it would be reaching to now deduce that Huijsen is now Real Madrid bound, it’s also certainly not the best sign for the Reds’ prospects of landing the teenager.

Real Madrid’s historical dominance in transfer races will be all too familiar for Liverpool fans.

Huijsen has had an outstanding debut Premier League season since joining Bournemouth from Juventus for just £12.6 million last summer.

At 6’5?, the Spain international is known for his versatility and technical ability, excelling in playing the ball out from the back and did not look out of place in such a high-profile clash vs the Netherlands.
