The transfer saga surrounding Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen has taken another significant turn with fresh details emerging about the structure of his widely-reported release clause.
The Spanish international’s future remains uncertain amid conflicting reports of his preferences, with several Premier League giants circling for his signature.
Liverpool are among several top clubs showing “genuine interest” in securing Huijsen’s services ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
The 20-year-old defender has been a revelation since joining the Cherries from Juventus for just £12.8 million last summer5, helping Andoni Iraola’s side to their best-ever Premier League points tally.
The Reds’ interest could be linked to uncertainty surrounding Ibrahima Konate’s future, with reports of “zero progress” regarding a new contract for the Frenchman who has just one year remaining on his deal.
Chelsea have dominated headlines this week with reports from The Independent suggesting they’ve moved to the front of the queue for Huijsen’s signature.
The West London club are reportedly prepared to activate his £50 million release clause and offer an extraordinary seven-year contract, following their strategy of securing promising young talent on long-term deal.
However, the transfer landscape around Huijsen has become increasingly convoluted with conflicting information about the player’s own preferences.
While some reports position Chelsea as frontrunners, talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook has claimed Huijsen actually “prefers a move to Liverpool or Arsenal over the West London club”.
And now, there has been a new revelation on the 20-year-old’s release clause.
According to Florian Plettenberg, the £50m fee can further be divided into three payments that equals the clause value.
Taking to X, the Sky Germany reporter asserts:
“What makes the release clause for Dean Huijsen even more interesting: the £50m/€58m do not have to be paid immediately – it has been contractually agreed that the clause can be paid in three instalments.”
“All interested clubs have been informed of this.
