Declan Rice has warned Liverpool that Arsenal will continue to ‘hunt them down’ in its pursuit to win the Premier League title.
The Gunners stayed within touching distance of Liverpool with an emphatic 5-1 victory over reigning champions Manchester City on Sunday, the club’s biggest Premier League defeat since January 2017.
It’s a result that leaves Arsenal six points behind Liverpool, who beat Bournemouth 2-0 on Saturday, but the leaders do have a game in hand.
Arsenal demonstrated on Sunday that, should Liverpool slip-up, it is poised to take advantage, even if Rice knows the prospect of catching Liverpool is daunting.
“Liverpool are still quite far in front, especially with the game in hand and with them winning yesterday, we know going into the game that we have to win these games,” the England international told Sky Sports after the victory over City.
“It’s more disappointing the games like [Aston] Villa when we’re 2-0 up and drop those sort of points.
Declan Rice was excellent in the win over Manchester City
“They’ve put themselves in this position and respect to them, but we know the goal we have which is to hunt them down and to win the Premier League
We have to stay positive, take each game as it comes and I’m sure we’ll be fine.”
On the game, Rice added: “To win 5-1 is an unbelievable scoreline – we had fire in our bellies from what happened at the Etihad at the start of the season, we really wanted to amend that
I think we did.”
Arsenal faces Newcastle United on Wednesday in the second leg of its Carabao Cup semi-final, before a 10-day gap until the trip Leicester City in the Premier League.
