llArne Slot has provided an injury update on both Diogo Jota and Joe Gomez with the pair both on the sidelines for a sustained period of time.
Gomez suffered a hamstring injury during Liverpool’s 5-0 victory over West Ham United on December 29, 20241.
The versatile 27-year-old was forced off in the first half.
His absence has been keenly felt, with the defender missing seven matches since sustaining the injury, and the likes of Wataru Endo having to fill in at centre-back on occasion.
Meanwhile Diogo Jota has already missed three consecutive games across different competitions, including Premier League clashes against Brentford and Ipswich Town, as well as the Champions League match against PSV Eindhoven.
He has been nursing an ‘overloaded muscle’ since the 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest on 14 January.
As the Reds continue their pursuit of domestic and European glory, the return of Gomez and Jota will be eagerly anticipated by fans and teammates alike.
Now Arne Slot has provided his update on the duo.
What did Arne Slot say about Diogo Jota and Joe Gomez?
Speaking in his pre-Bournemouth press conference, the Dutchman was quizzed on the injury list and all the changes expected to be made after the rotated squad vs PSV:
“You can say I rested a lot players, you could also say I played the ones who needed playing time.”
“I was really impressed with how they played against a PSV side who had a strong team.”
‘The ones who stayed behind didn’t rest in the sense they had two or three days off, they did train but they didn’t have a game.”
On Diogo Jota and Gomez in particular, he revealed the pair are in training alongside Darwin Nunez who was ill against PSV:
“All three of them are in training today.
