While Diogo Jota continues to suffer another injury-riddled campaign with Liverpool, he seems to be making moves off the pitch in the meantime.

In October, he suffered a rib injury when Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo landed directly on him during a challenge.

This sidelined him for an extended period.

His most recent setback came after scoring against Nottingham Forest, with Arne Slot revealing he “overloaded a certain muscle,” which will keep him out for several weeks rather than months.

Despite his limited appearances, Jota’s statistics remain impressive with 8 goals and 2 assists in 19 games – which show how valuable he is to this side.

It is then all the more frustrating when he gets injuries that start out a as a ‘few weeks’ but turn into a few months instead.

Fans particularly respect Jota’s exceptional scoring ability, but the constant injury concerns make it difficult to depend on him, especially with Darwin Nunez’s inconsistent finishing creating additional pressure on the team’s attacking options.

Nevertheless, he is expected back in action very soon, and in the meantime, he is continuing to make moves off the pitch.

What did Diogo Jota invest in?

Diogo Jota has been announced as one of a number of high-profile Premier League stars to invest in ‘Baller League’, an innovative six-a-side football competition set for international expansion in 2025.

The investment comes as part of a €23 million ($24.1 million) series A funding round led by Portugal-based private equity firm Apex, with EQT Ventures leading the funding and Courtside Ventures also participating.

The league, which has already completed two successful seasons in Germany, is now preparing for its UK launch by the end of March 2025.

The competition has attracted significant star power, with icons like Luis Figo and Ronaldinho already involved, alongside popular social media personalities like KSI.

Diogo Jota has joined Mason Mount and Diogo Dalot in investing in the project, while André Silva, José Fonte and Max Wöber have also made investment.

The German iteration of the league has shown promising metrics, attracting 3 million average viewers on Twitch during matchdays and generating 1.2 billion impressions across all media platforms

Mason Mount said as quoted by Insider Sport: “Baller League brings football together with social media influencers who have huge followings.

I’m excited to see Baller League come to the UK and can’t wait to watch the first game.”

Jota added: “Baller League has a lot of crossover with the world of Esports and streaming, concepts I understand well?

The twitch numbers achieved in Germany in their first season are a strong indicator of the success Baller can have in the UK and US markets.”

According to Apex, these athlete-investors will do more than just provide capital – they will actively engage in enhancing the Baller League product through their expertise and insights.
